President Obama: Usual Republican Blame Game Over Halligan Block (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | President Barack Obama is disappointed with the actions of Republicans in voting down Caitlin Halligan, his nominee for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, according to the Washington Post. As a political consultant, I am disappointed with the president in trying to make the Republicans look bad and reinforcing the political divide he constantly contributes to. I wonder if he will ever understand Washington politics.

Fox News is reporting the final Senate vote count at 54-45 and Halligan needed 60 votes. The Democrats voted unanimously for her. If the Republicans are being called out for unity against her, who is going to call the Democrats out on their unity in support of her? Essentially the debate came down to a difference in opinion over Halligan's actions as an activist. The Republicans believed she was too much of an activist to truly defend the Constitution.

When his medical legislation was struggling through Congress, President Obama blamed the Republicans and toured the country badmouthing them at every turn. When his jobs bill was getting torn apart on Capitol Hill, the president toured the country and blamed Congress for not wanting to spend endless money on his bill. When the supercommittee was failing, the Republicans were blamed for not wanting to tax everyone. Now, when the Halligan nomination is shot down, our leader blames the GOP for playing political games.

I regret voting for President Obama due to the fact he pressed that he was going to be a unifier who would reach across the aisle with a bipartisan hand. I voted for him as I believed he would make strides to unify Congress in moving this country forward. I will not make the same blind mistake in 2012 as he adds more to the party divide in the U.S. than anyone else.

The president consistently proves he does not understand Washington politics. If the opposing party is constantly shooting items down, you need to figure out how to negotiate. You need to learn how to get what you need no matter what type of back scratching you need to do. If something you want does not get passed, you do not start a verbal war with the opposition. You go to the drawing room and to the negotiating room and figure out how to make things work. You figure out how you can lead.
