Amsterdam, July 30, 2012 Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announces the launch of Applied and Translational Genomics, an open access journal. The journal is dedicated to publishing articles on applied genomics and translational research.

The completion of the human genome project gave way to research that takes the genetic code and applies it to research that aims to eradicate disease. This applied genomic research is most relevant in the area of translational research, or, the field of research which finds itself between that of basic research and clinical trials. Applied and Translational Genomics serves as a home for this exponentially expanding field of research.

"Like any other scientific and technological field, an important outcome measure of research is its meeting societal expectations in wide ranging domains including economic gains, improving living standards, compatible with socio-cultural and religious practices, keeping consistent with contemporary ethical, moral and legal requirements," said Dhavendra Kumar, MD, Editor-in-Chief of the journal. "There are several potential areas where rapid advances in scientific understanding and avenues for translational research seriously need to be considered. Applied and Translational Genomics aims to be the premier journal to publish this cutting-edge research."

Bart Wacek, Executive Publisher Life Sciences at Elsevier added, "We are delighted that we have been able to launch this journal in this important area of scientific research. Applied and Translational Genomics has a broad scope and provides a home for high quality research in the areas that sometimes get caught in between basic research and clinical trials."

In traditional classroom setup with anywhere from 15 to 35 students inside a class, there can be a limited time to concentrate on each student. The story of the world's first free-range computer virus

11 hrs.

How two Pakistani brothers and one piece of runaway code created the anti-virus industry.

It was early 1987, and security expert Roger Thompson had just seen his first computer virus, in a programming class at a technical college in Brisbane, Australia. "Back in those days, there really weren't any programs you could use to look for these things," recalls Thompson, who now works for anti-virus company AVG. "Somebody just handed me a disk." On the boot sector of the disk, there was a program called Brain.

"I took a look at the computer to see where it had written itself, and it wasn't anywhere on the hard drive. I thought, 'Oh, it's not a virus at all.' So I just moved on and put another disk in. Suddenly the virus was on the second disk. It was seeding every floppy I put in."

Prank programs had been around as long as there were computers to run them on, but truly self-replicating code hadn't been seen outside of university computer labs. The code was hovering in working memory, copying itself onto the boot sector of every disk that entered the machine. The program was non-destructive, but virulent ? and because those 5 1/4-inch disks were the only way to move data onto or off of a computer, Brain was able to span half the globe by the time it arrived in Brisbane.

Once Thompson isolated the code, he found an even bigger surprise. The creators' names were written into every copy: Basit & Amjad Alvi of Brain Computer Services, Lahore, Pakistan.

By the end of the year, Brain had spread through America and most of Europe, hopping from disk to disk, computer to computer. To leap across the ocean ? to reach Roger Thompson in Brisbane, say ? someone had to take an infected floppy onto a plane or ship. This was before the web: It was a lot harder to cross the ocean. And as the virus spread, so did the rumors: Was this some kind of revenge against software pirates? Were the brothers trying to kick off an IT security firm?

The truth is less dramatic. As Amjad describes it to BuzzFeed, he and his brother were just playing around with assembly language: "At the time, there were not multi-tasking OSs or multi-tasking programs, so we found some interesting code that stayed resident in the background of the memory." It was a powerful trick. "For more than a year, we were experimenting, just learning things. It was not planned that we were going to make a virus."

Patient zero was a hospital in the provincial capital of Quetta, 600 miles west of Lahore. In the fall of 1986, the Alvi brothers visited the hospital to install some software they'd developed. On the way, Amjad realized one of his disks was infected with the self-replicating program they'd been experimenting with. He decided to leave it there. "If someone wanted to steal my program, I figured I would know that program was stolen from that specific, isolated medical computer," he says. Having left it on a business computer in rural Pakistan, there was no reason to think the program would spread.

It took two years for Amjad to get his first call. Thanks to the time difference, it came in the middle of the night, from a student reporter at Miami University. She had found his number on a floppy disk.

There had been computer viruses in labs before, most notably Fred Cohen's experiements at USC in the early 1980s, but as long as the programs were confined to a lab, it was impossible to know how quickly or thoroughly they might spread. Simply releasing a program into the wild was impossible, due to ethics concerns, so it took a minor pandemic like Brain to make the IT world take notice. As Thompson puts it, "Nobody actually believed viruses existed until they got one, and then they became a believer right away."

Within a year of Brain's release, John McAfee and Eugene Kaspersky had both set up shop selling virus protection software. Shortly after, F-Secure in Finland, F-Prot in Iceland and Doctor Solomon's Antivirus in England followed suit, along with Thompson's own Leprechaun Software. Suddenly, anyone with a digital infrastructure was aware of the risk posed by viruses, and willing to pay money to protect themselves. A new industry sprang up in the space of a few years.

The Alvi brothers, for the most part, were left out. The western anti-virus businesses had little interest in cornering the Pakistani market, and in the years it took Brain to spread, Basit and Amjad moved on to other interests. Brain Inc. is a telecom company now. In 1998, they installed Pakistan's first high-speed fiber network. Even with the rise of militarized malware like Flame, Mr. Alvi hasn't seen much reason to get back into the anti-virus business. "If there can be a physical assault there can be a cyber assault as well," he told us. "It is not any different in my opinion." And for an honest man, coding viruses isn't much of a business opportunity.

Massive spam botnet shut down, say experts

1 day

A major spam?botnet that inundated email inboxes around the world with emails promoting fake prescription drugs is gone. So says the security firm that helped kill it.

"The?Grum botnet?has finally been knocked down. All the known command and control (CnC) servers are dead, leaving their zombies orphaned," wrote?Atif Mushtaq of?FireEye Malware Intelligence Lab in California, referring to computers enslaved by hackers for malicious use. The security firm worked with The Spamhaus Project, computer experts and Internet service providers?around the world in the effort.

The botnet has been around for about four years, and "has lately been responsible for about 15 to 17 percent of all spam," Vincent Hanna of The Spamhaus Project, told NBC?News Thursday. The group is an international nonprofit organization, with offices in Geneva and London, that tracks spam operations and works with law enforcement agencies to identify "spam gangs" around the world.?

"On any given day more than 100,000 IP addresses would be used to send?out Grum-produced spam messages," Hanna said. "During one week, we would see about?half-a-million different IP addresses send Grum spam."

Getting rid of Grum involved an elaborate hide-and-seek game globally, from Panama to Russia and places inbetween during three days this week, according to Mushtaq, who shared the tale on FireEye's blog, saying in part:

With the shutdown of the Panamanian server, a complete segment was dead forever. This good news was soon followed by some bad news. After seeing the Panamanian server had been shut down, the bot herders moved quickly and started pointing the rest of the CnCs to new secondary servers in Ukraine.

Grum's takedown, he wrote, "resulted from the efforts of many individuals. This collaboration is sending a strong message to all the spammers":

Stop sending us spam. We don't need your cheap Viagra or fake Rolex. Do something else, work in a Subway or McDonald's, or sell hot?dogs, but don't send us spam.

David Harley,?ESET?security firm senior research fellow,?told NBC?News said that Grum's elimination "should certainly result in a?short-term reduction" of spam, but that he expects to see "other spammer networks" quickly work to fill the void.

"I can?t say how fast they can ramp up to meet demand: spam throughput depends on several factors, not least the volume of available zombies," he said. "That?s not really something I can predict. Major takedowns can have a perceptible impact for weeks, even months, but that doesn?t mean it will be the case here."

Hanna, of The Spamhaus Project, said?Grum "was definitely one of the bigger botnets out there ...?We're very glad with this at-least-for-now?victory over the?cyber?criminals. It shows that with cooperation, difficult things like?taking down a botnet can get done."

Syria rebels seize Iraq border after deadliest day

Syrian rebels sought to seal off President Bashar al-Assad's embattled regime from the outside world by seizing border posts amid calls for protests nationwide Friday on "the Ramadan of victory."

Members of the rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) fought a raging battle with Syrian troops at the Bab al-Hawa border post with Turkey, an AFP photographer at the scene reported, addding that some 150 rebel fighters now controlled the crossing.

More than 300 people were killed across Syria on Thursday's deadliest day of the uprising now in its 17th month, as both China and Russia again dismayed the West by vetoing UN Security Council action against his regime for the third time.

Two days after rebels killed three of Assad's security chiefs including his brother-in-law, battles raged in the capital on Friday as the army said it had retaken the district of Midan from "terrorists," the term it uses for the rebels.

"Our brave army forces have completely cleaned the area of Midan in Damascus of the remaining mercenary terrorists and have reestablished security," state television said.

In Brussels, the European Union is preparing to freeze the assets of at least 26 Syrians close Assad and readying plans to board vessels and aircraft suspected of supplying weapons to his regime.

Syria on Friday began the first day of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan amid a security forces ultimatum to "cleanse Damascus of terrorists."

Activists have call for fresh anti-regime demonstrations after the regular weekly prayers under the slogan "The Ramadan of victory will be written in Damascus."

The army on Thursday resorted to heavy armour in the capital for the first time, using tanks against the rebels.

Assad also appeared in public for the first time since Wednesday's bombing, greeting his new defence minister on state television as he scrambled to shore up his battered prestige. His previous defence minister was killed by the bomb.

Violence is spiralling across the country, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which reported 302 people -- 98 Syrian soldiers, 139 civilians and 65 rebels -- killed Thursday nationwide.

At the Bab al-Hawa frontier crossing with Turkey, rebels sacked the Syrian border post, which was bloodstained and riddled with bullets.

They also looted Turkish lorries caught up in the battle.

Syrian soldiers had abandoned the site in the northwest province of Idlib, the scene of fierce fighting for months.

On Thursday, Iraq's deputy interior minister said the Free Syrian Army (FSA) had seized control of all crossings along their common border.

"All the border points between Iraq and Syria are under the control of the Free Syrian Army," Adnan al-Assadi told AFP by telephone.

Assadi said Iraqi border guards had seen FSA fighters seize a border outpost, detain a Syrian lieutenant colonel, and cut off his arms and legs.

"Then they executed 22 Syrian soldiers in front of the eyes of Iraqi soldiers."

The account of the killings could not be independently verified.

Meanwhile at the United Nations, Russia and China used their powers as permanent Security Council members to block resolutions on Syria for the third time in nine months.

UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan, who had called on the council to impose "consequences" for the failure to carry out his peace plan for Syria, expressed disappointment that it had failed to reach agreement.

Washington condemned the "highly regrettable decision" of China and Russia to veto the UN resolution, with President Barack Obama's spokesman Jay Carney warning of "repercussions... in terms of how they're viewed by the Syrian people."

"There's no doubt that Syria's future will not include Bashar al-Assad. His days in power are numbered," he warned.

Washington said the Security Council had "utterly failed" on Syria and that it would now work outside the council to confront Assad's regime.

The White House also said that without the tougher mandate the vetoed text would have implied, there was no point in retaining UN military observers in Syria to monitor the non-implementation of Annan's plan by Assad's government.

Britain and Pakistan proposed rival resolutions extending the UN Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) and, amid Council deadlock, a vote on both could be held on Friday, just hours before the end of the mission's 90-day mandate.

Russia said on Friday it backs an unconditional 45-day extension of the observer mission.

The upsurge in fighting has sparked a new exodus of refugees.

Nearly 19,000 Syrians poured into Lebanon, a security official told AFP in Beirut, while Iraqi officials said thousands of Iraqi refugee families had fled home from Syria.

The Syrian military had given residents 48 hours to leave areas of the capital, as security forces fought rebels pushing their "Damascus Volcano" offensive.

The authorities said state funerals would be held in Damascus on Friday for the three regime stalwarts killed in Wednesday's bombing.

Assad's brother-in-law and one of the Syrian security apparatus' hawks, Assef Shawkat, will be buried later in the western province of Tartus.

Daoud Rajha, who was defence minister, will be buried in his Christian town of Maalula near Damascus, and crisis cell chief Hassan Turkmani in northern Aleppo.

Maximize Your Business Through These Social Media Marketing ...

Category: Uncategorized | Added on: Wednesday, July 18th, 2012 | Total: 69 Views

Every company has to figure out how to reach their potential customers. You can do this with a top-quality online marketing campaign, like article marketing or SEO. One of the most recent and best methods for company promotion is marketing via social media. If you would also like to use social media marketing to your advantage, simply continue to read this article to pick up some great tips.

When you make a post on Twitter, adding a tag is recommended. Hashtags are used to collect groups of tweets all pertaining to the same topic so that users can follow everything pertaining to that idea. The tags should relate to your target audience.

Building your presence on social media networks requires patience. You cannot expect to have 10,000 followers in one day. It is possible and has been done before, but it is highly unlikely that your social media profiles will go viral the moment that you set them up. Just have patience and cultivate your following in time.

You need a widget if you?re going to maximize your social media content?s potential. Putting a widget on your site is the way to glean followers for your site. Also, a widget allows consumers to vote on your site?s quality and re-tweet information themselves.

Utilize advertising available on social media sites. Advertising space on social networking sites is relatively inexpensive. Like Google AdSense, the advertising will appear on pages that use your business?s keywords. Some different social sites offer this type of targeted advertising that can help you reach your target audience.

Add catchy titles to your videos when you market on YouTube. If you are using YouTube for marketing, titles are extremely important. They should attract attention because they are interesting and entice users to click the ?play? button. Don?t forget to use keywords that are important to the video in the title, also.

Keep your company?s Facebook profile updated as often as you can. If your account looks abandoned, many people will lose interest.

Offer exclusive deals to customers who sign up for your social media sites in order to attract customers to those sites. If they?re noticing deals that they can?t get elsewhere on their page, they will pay a lot more attention to your social media marketing. This leads to them telling their friends, which costs you nothing.

Think about fun content that your followers will enjoy the next time you update your Facebook page. A few ways you can accomplish this are with fun YouTube videos, links to exciting content or informative articles. It is important to leverage this type of interesting content without compromising professionalism and credibility.

Social media is a great tool for sharing information and promoting your business. For example, post pictures of yourself or employees at a charity event. Make sure you record what your workers are doing through pictures and writing. Any activities that portray your company in a positive light are a good idea.

Although your overall intention is to sell products or services for profit, you need to have more focus that that. You need to develop a relationship with your readers, so place an emphasis on communication. Interacting online will help you expand your business. You will see that this will also make your business more visible.

You should never take focus away from your customers during the holidays. You may think that people are more inclined to buy, so you don?t have to push as hard. Well, you have to push even harder, if only because more competition is present around the holidays. Be sure that you have plans in place, and have fun with your customers during the holidays. Your customers will love this seasonal spirit.

If you?re keeping a blog for social media purposes, you have to make sure that it?s kept as active as possible. Readers will return more frequently if you are continually presenting new content. Newspaper and magazine subscriptions show this to be true. Stay consistent and do your best to create quality content to keep your audience interested.

Don?t make your profiles all about you constantly posting too much content. Social media is about communication; your posts should help you connect and communicate with customers rather than just informing them of what you?re up to.

Generate regular updates for each of the social media outlets you use. If your streams are outdated, search engines and people searching the internet will notice. Your site should have new and varied content on a regular basis.

It might be difficult to get going, but once you start, momentum will gather, and you?ll be on a roll. Businesses all over the world have benefited from social media and you can too. All you need is dedication and some education from people who have tried and succeeded before you.

If your career has anything to do with food, you are probably experienced at fielding questions and comments from others when you're at dinner parties, restaurants, and basically anyplace that involves eating and people.

Nutrition is a hot topic, and one that we can't escape. Thousands of books, websites and blogs are fixated on it. Why? Perhaps the reason is because there is no way around eating -- we all have to do it. While we can make conscious decisions as to whether or not we exercise, do yoga, meditate, cook, and manage stress, eating is not a decision that's up to us -- it's vital to our health, and most importantly, our ability to sustain life.

The questions I hear most often when out with friends or complete strangers are: "How does my plate look?" and "What can I do to lose weight?" My favorite is: "It looks like you just eat vegetables all day." Well, I do love vegetables, but it's not all I eat, and -- gasp -- sometimes I put cheese on my broccoli and every once in a while I'll have some ice cream or a few pieces of pizza. Moderation, I believe, is the key to optimal nutrition. Giving everything up has never made sense to me, but there are five things that I will never let touch my lips.

  • Fat-Free Or Reduced-Fat Foods

They sound so tempting, don't they? All the flavor and satisfaction but without all the fat -- who could refuse? In actuality, however, you're paying for that choice. This fits into the category of what I like to call "foods that don't make sense." The best way to illustrate this is by looking at reduced fat peanut butter. When manufacturers take fat out of peanut butter, they simply reduce the overall amount of peanuts (the healthy fat source) and replace it with sugar. Since sugar has only four calories per gram (as opposed to fat, which has nine) and does not contain any fat, the overall product is reduced of both calories and fat. Here's the problem: The original product (containing only peanuts) was much healthier than the altered product for two main reasons. It contained a healthy monounsaturated fat, and it did not influence blood sugar increases or insulin production. Sugar has been associated with increased <a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.3945/jn.111.149807" target="_hplink">inflammation,</a> increased risk of <a href="http://archinte.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/short/170/7/640" target="_hplink">heart disease,</a> increased risk of <a href="http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2007-11/jaaj-hic112107.php" target="_hplink">Type 2 diabetes,</a> and may effect our ability to <a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.1001/jama.2012.6607" target="_hplink">lose weight or maintain weight </a>loss. If we just stuck with the fat (i.e., the peanuts), we'd be better able to control <a href="http://care.diabetesjournals.org/content/34/8/1706" target="_hplink">Type 2 diabetes risk</a>, reduce our risk for <a href="http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/pr200514h" target="_hplink">cardiovascular disease</a> and control our weight (due to the high amount of calories in high-sugar foods). Knowing how to accurately read labels is important when choosing between regular or reduced-fat foods. My advice: Go back to the basics and stick with foods that are unaltered from the original state. Peanut butter should have one ingredient -- peanuts.

  • Animals Products With "Unnatural" Feed Sources

Last month, I wrote a two-part series devoted to egg consumption in the United States. I specifically documented the confusing, and often misinterpreted, labeling system on our egg cartons and how these labels related to the truth about what you, the consumer, were actually getting. Eggs, however, are just the tip of the food chain iceberg when it comes to debate regarding how our animals are fed. While I gave up red meat and chicken years ago, I still enjoy eggs, fish and some dairy, and the first thing I look at when I am purchasing these items is what the animals ate. A 2010 study in the <a href="http://www.nutritionj.com/content/9/1/10 " target="_hplink"><em>Nutrition Journal</em> </a>found that grass-fed (as opposed to corn-fed) beef was higher in omega-3 fatty acids, as well as precursors for Vitamin A and E. Additionally, grass-fed beef was found to be lower in overall fat than it's corn-fed cousins. Another public health concern relates to antibiotics in our food sources and how they affect our resistance to antibiotics for illness. A 2012 study out of <a href="http://www.newswise.com/articles/researchers-find-evidence-of-banned-antibiotics-in-poultry-products " target="_hplink">Johns Hopkins School of Public Health</a> found that several antibiotics banned by the FDA in 2005 were still in use. Further, a 2011 <a href="http://ehp03.niehs.nih.gov/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1289%2Fehp.1003350" target="_hplink">study</a> in the journal <em>Environmental Health Perspectives</em> found that <a href="http://www.ams.usda.gov/AMSv1.0/getfile?dDocName=STELDEV3004446&acct=nopgeninfo" target="_hplink">organic </a>poultry farms had significantly fewer antibiotic-resistant bacteria than their non-organic conventional counterparts. For me, I've decided to get my own chickens and, in addition to a natural feed, they'll roam on my land forging, for bugs, grubs, worms and grass, just like they're supposed to. Chicken ownership is growing in popularity. If you want to inquire about chicken ownership, start with your local city council to see if there are any resources or restrictions where you live. If owning chickens isn't for you, consider purchasing fresh eggs from a local farm.

  • Frozen Yogurt At A Self-Serve Establishment

More people are making an effort to improve their diet and are enticed by the idea of a "healthy" treat that looks and feels like ice cream but isn't. Enter the frozen yogurt craze. They're popping up everywhere, and some provide us with something the older establishments didn't -- a chance to serve ourselves. Thumbs up for the fro-yo industry, thumbs down for our waistlines. First, the yogurt options may not be much better than ice cream. They may be loaded with calories, fat, and sugar. The biggest problem with these establishments is the enormous bowl that is handed to you when you walk in the door. When an individual has an opportunity to serve him/herself, especially when provided with a large serving bowl, portion control may be completely disregarded. Not to mention the high-calorie toppings that can be added without limit. A 2006 <a href="http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0749379706001796" target="_hplink">study </a>published in the <em>American Journal of Preventative Medicine</em> found that the size of a bowl impacts the amount of food served and consequently eaten. The participants in the study were nutrition experts who subconsciously served themselves 31 percent more when given a larger bowl and 14.5 percent more when using a larger serving spoon. When entering a frozen yogurt shop with a large bowl and an automatic serving machine anyone, even a dietitian, is more likely to pour more yogurt and toppings. At the end of the day, one serving of ice cream is a better choice than the three servings of frozen yogurt.

  • Fiber Bars

Incorporating adequate amounts of fiber into our diets is important for many reasons. A 2012 <a href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22649266" target="_hplink">study</a> in the journal <em>Nutrition</em> found that high-fiber diets were associated with decreased total blood cholesterol, prevention of constipation and diverticulitis, increased satiety, and increased weight loss. Basically, in the world of nutrition, fiber is king. While fiber is naturally present in plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, many consumers are bypassing the whole food options and going straight for the ever-so-popular fiber bar. It's convenient, it's tasty, it gives you lots of fiber and oh, by the way, it can also be nothing more than a candy bar in disguise. Here's the catch -- a fiber bar provides a lot of sugar with very few beneficial nutrients. The fiber is usually added in, allowing the manufacturer to advertise the product as a high fiber source, but these options are not always a healthy food choice. A popular brand of fiber bars lists the following as some of the ingredients: sweet chocolate chips with coffee, high maltose corn syrup, sugar, honey, palm kernel oil, and fructose. These are the same ingredients found in many popular candy bars. Want to get all the benefits of fiber without all the extra sugar and calories? Grab an apple; it's cheaper and travels just as nicely in a purse or gym bag.

  • Speciality Coffee Drinks

There is nothing that I enjoy more than a freshly brewed cup of coffee to jump start my day. Fortunately for me and the other coffee lovers out there, many research studies have associated regular coffee consumption with a variety of health benefits. Particularly, a 2012 <a href="http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1112010?query=featured_home" target="_hplink">study </a>in in the <em>New England Journal of Medicine</em> found that drinking coffee may reduce a person's risk of dying. The study included more than 400,000 participants ages of 50 to 71. The researchers found that those who drank coffee regularly were less likely to die from heart disease, stroke, diabetes, or infections. Although black coffee has proven to have a variety of impressive health benefits, adding extra ingredients to the mug can outweigh the advantages derived from the coffee bean -- and the ingredient options are many! Walk into any popular coffee shop and immediately you'll be hit with a tremendous amount of drink combinations to satisfy every taste bud. Different sizes, temperature options, colors, flavors and strengths are all just waiting behind the barista taking our order. The majority of these extras, however, are nothing more than high-fat milk products or sugary syrups. In other words, specialty coffee drinks are loaded with empty calories that may contribute to <a href="http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa1014296" target="_hplink">weight gain</a> over time. To put things into perspective, a large, flavored latte contains 300-plus calories, whereas a large plain coffee contains a whopping five calories. Add in just 1/2 cup of skim milk and you're still under 50 calories. It does not take a mathematician to calculate that the additional 300 calories from your morning latte may end up providing a bigger number on the scale. If you're going to go with a specialty item, stick with skim cow's, almond or soy milk, avoid sugar-laden sweeteners, and don't overdo the size of the cup.

In this article we'll go through the most essential things that can be done to realize a muscular body.

First of all, shoot for ongoing overload. It simply means that you will never gain muscle by simply performing exactly the same thing all the time. Each workout you will need to add in reps and also boost the weight that you're lifting to make sure that the muscle grows. The trick is to actually motivate the physique by boosting the demand for muscle. Simply, you will have to locate your breaking point and start building beyond that. Quite often, 8 to 12 reps for any exercise are great for muscle tissue advancement. If you use higher weight however much less reps you'll grow to be stronger but your muscle tissue is not going to grow as effectively. High repetition amounts are not optimal. Simply put, look for a weight which is too much for you to accomplish more than a dozen reps however that lets you at the very least go to 8 reps every time. Likewise, just one set is not sufficient. You'll need six to nine reps per muscle group you're working. Also, it is important to never workout excessively. On the Forty-five minute point, catabolic human hormones are let go, which will essentially lower muscle mass!

Muscle expansion is not possible if you don't give your body the building blocks it takes so as to increase muscle mass. In this instance, the basis are in nutrition, particularly in the variety of health proteins. Actually, one of the most frequent strategies on how to gain muscle mass will be eat, eat, and eat! Quite simply, when you're trying to build muscle, you're tearing your muscle tissue at the cellular level and after that letting it fix itself and then grow back. A bodybuilding diet regime demands you to ultimately consume a lot to do that. However, you need to eat enough to grow muscles while not gaining too much fat. To do that, you will have to consume a lot of health proteins, especially after each and every strength training workout. You will be astonished at how much healthy protein your system needs, actually. To compute this, just multiply your lean weight in kilograms (that's, your own weight minus your own body fat weight) by two point seven five. The ending figure is the number of healthy proteins you'll need on a daily basis. Many body builders additionally recommend eating one g of healthy protein for each pound you actually weigh. Therefore, a One hundred fifty lb guy would have to take in 150 gr of healthy protein daily.

You actually will not gain muscle mass unless you manage how you live. Because of that, do not neglect the significance of acquiring more than enough sleep at night along with consuming a good amount of drinking water. Most significantly, rest! Anxiety is sure to interfere with muscle success.

food and thrift: Zucchini in Tomato Sauce...and Restaurant Review

I hope you have an extra few minutes to hang out on my blog...just wanted to share the latest...I mean the really most recent, meaning, from yesterday's event! What a wonderful day I've had yesterday, that was totally unplanned.
I'm so happy that my family is back now, from Italy, and I'm back in my own little place, with my sweet little Persian kitty, Mush, who I rarely mention. I've had her since she was a kitten, 13 years ago...and she is still the size of a kitten, has not grown much, but so cute and sweet. She was my beloved Prince kitties constant companion...and now, my little 'shadow'...always been sweet and aloof, but now that Prince is gone, she constantly wants to be around me!

Linking to:Hearth and Soul Blog Hop @ Zesty South Indian Kitchen?

I'm not starting out with the restaurant review...although that came earlier, at lunch time, but for dinner, I made this batch of zucchini for a light dinner, just enjoying it with crusty slices of bread. Still have plenty left over, which could be added over pasta of your choice! So easy to make, and so delicious.

Zucchini is in season now, and so abundant in our supermarkets, and especially in the fresh produce market. I also picked up a small batch of thyme, a bunch of Italian parsley, and decided to make a different herb version for my zucchini and tomato sauce.

Zucchini in Tomato Sauce
created by; Elisabeth

4 small zucchini sliced,(but not too thin)
1 medium onion chopped
2 cloves garlic minced
salt and pepper to taste
a handful of Italian parsley chopped
few sprigs of thyme snipped, or
(you can use basil, rosemary, or your
favorite herbs)
1 cup fresh, or canned tomato sauce
(I used Flora tomato sauce)
3 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 cup white wine, or vegetable broth

In a large cast iron, or non-stick skillet, saute onion and garlic first, for about 5 minutes, add the sliced zucchini, and saute over medium high heat to get a little color on them. Add the wine, or broth, let it cook down a little...another 5 minutes longer.

Add the tomato sauce, and let it cook for another 10 to 15 minutes. The entire cooking time should not take more than 25 minutes. Serve over pasta, or just simply enjoy with crusty bread of your choice...and there's your 30 minute meal. You can also grate Parmesan cheese on top if you prefer!

Simple, and easy...guaranteed that you will love it, if you like zucchini, this is a great way for kids to enjoy their veggies...smothered in tomato sauce!

...and now, for the Restaurant Review!
Come along with me, to Delray Beach, Florida...about a 30 minute ride from West Palm Beach...a second South Beach type of atmosphere... (with less crazy people)
About a little over 3 years ago, I lived in the vicinity of this awesome little tourist city,? that I know, so well. It has changed and have grown, even in the last few years...according to my son-in-law Fabrizio, he said that I'm acting like a 'tourist' taking so many photos! Well, maybe so...but I really enjoyed the early part of the day, with my family, and a nice lunch, and walking around up and down Atlantic Avenue, in Delray Beach...even though it was a cloudy day, and later pouring rain!

Fabrizio, and granddaughter Gabby, and trailing behind...Luca, (Lora) in background...not shown, and me always taking photos!

Ahh, here we are Lemongrass, Japanese Restaurant...haven't been here in 2yrs...food is so good, and a pleasant friendly atmosphere!
There's 2 identical section like this...2 bars, so if you have too much Saki to drink...you may think you're seeing double!...no Saki for me, it's only a little over 12: noon! (Lora in the blue shirt, walking in)
I ordered the Lemongrass soup, with mussels, squid, scallops and fish...a light lemony hot 'paprika' broth...did not know that they use Hungarian paprika in Japanese cuisine...I loved it, it really 'hit the spot'. Fabrizio ordered the same thing.

We all shared these 2 rolls...the front one was called ...Volcano Rolls...some really yummy sauce, not spicy...covering the rolls...even the little guy enjoyed it, wanting to learn how to eat with chopsticks!

Gabby's Pad Thai noodles, with chicken...and some brown rice from Lora's shrimp and brown rice...on the same plate...really delicious, (but not crazy about the presentation)
Since no-one would pose for me...all you can see them is walking, and me taking photos of other restaurant buildings...such as this lovely building on the corner, next to the railroad track...for years, this building was a breakfast eatery...then, abandoned for a few years, and in the last ten years, it's been a chic eatery, and always packed on the weekend, and during season. (didn't check the name of the place, but dined there 2yrs ago)As we were strolling down the avenue...I spotted these gorgeous expensive dogs...their masters walking them...
I don't know the breed of these beautiful dogs...just took the picture, and thanked the owner (no time to ask for permission)...but they said "you're welcome"...isn't it nice how people can be so friendly, and courteous?
Just look at the strong legs on those doggies...wonder if they are poodles...just have them groomed differently!
On this corner, is a very nice seafood restaurant...outdoor eating has a fresh mist blowing...you can even see the mist, above the entrance where it says...Lobster Roll!
?Heading on to this 'parkway' ...there is a brand new amazing restaurant...gigantic outdoor eating, and indoor, as well!...check this out!
This is all part of one restaurant...I have not seen this until now, since they've only opened a few months ago! Totally, amazing!
This was my very favorite...beautiful, and just check out the upstairs...two stories. Love the architecture of the modern building!
A whimsical gift shop, with art, as well...wonder if these cute sculptures are for sale?...love the turtles! So, that was a very nice day, well spent, and totally NOT planned. This is how my family plans events like this...sometimes at the 'spur of the moment'. Have a wonderful day, and hope you're not suffering the heat! We are having 10 degrees cooler temps. now...only about 88 degrees the highest...just lots of rain every day...and mostly grey skies!

Audrey&#39;s journey across the world ? Cure - UF Shands Cancer ...

Six-year-old from Australia comes to UF Proton Therapy Center for brain tumor treatment.

?

An international adventure began with the sound of rain. When Audrey Anderson, 6, heard raindrops on the roof of her house in Australia, she would vomit. The intense reaction worried her mother, Sue Anderson.

?We couldn?t really figure out why she reacted like that and thought she?d grow out of it,? she said.

Audrey?s reaction to the rain was followed by a week of intense headaches, until one night when she sat up in bed and asked to go to the hospital.

Doctors discovered a tumor in Audrey?s brain, near the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. The tumor, called a craniopharyngioma, wasn?t cancerous, but could threaten Audrey?s eyesight and development if it grew. A limited surgery was performed, but doctors couldn?t eradicate the tumor completely, so Anderson contacted proton therapy centers for treatment information. The technology would allow radiation to be delivered with precise accuracy, sparing neighboring tissue and allowing doctors to treat the affected area without affecting most of Audrey?s brain.

She chose the UF Proton Therapy Center, one of four academic proton centers affiliated with a major U.S. pediatric hospital, because of its friendly phone service and how fast she was able to speak to Daniel Indelicato, M.D., an assistant professor in the UF College of Medicine-Jacksonville department of radiation oncology.

With his help, Audrey, Anderson, her husband, Wendel, and their two other daughters, Lilly, 10, and Eve, 3, were able to travel from Australia to Jacksonville. Prior to Audrey?s arrival, the proton center sent her a storybook, attached to a stuffed Gator mascot affectionately named ?Proton Gator,? to help her prepare.

For six weeks, Audrey went through proton treatments. She lay perfectly still while the treatment was administered, usually a hard task for a child to accomplish.

?Audrey was so mature,? Indelicato said.

By Audrey?s side was her favorite person in the hospital, child life specialist Kim Ely, or as Audrey calls her, ?Miss Kim.? Ely helped Audrey relax during her treatments and made the procedure feel like a game, Indelicato said.

Audrey?s treatments ended in January and the Andersons returned to Australia. Over the next year, Audrey?s tumor should continue to shrink until it?s no larger than the size of a thumbnail.

The family visited Disney World and the beach during their stay, but it is their time at the center they cherish the most.

?More happiness came out of the center than pain,? Anderson said. ?The kids would talk about the people at the hospital before a character at Disney World.? ? Mina Radman

Immigration debate keeps law school graduate a few steps from his ...

Click photo to enlarge

DURHAM ? The endless rows of almond orchards dotting the landscape in this ranch town just outside Chico meant a future for Sergio Garcia?s family.

His father, a Mexican immigrant, harvested the cash crop, shaking the trees for bounty 12 hours a day through hot summer months. As a teenager, Sergio Garcia worked alongside his father, helping out when he wasn?t rising to the top of his high school class and positioning himself for college and, later, law school.

But the nation?s wrenching debate over illegal immigration has now engulfed Garcia?s path to success. He is at the center of an unprecedented California Supreme Court case that will determine whether the state bar can grant an undocumented immigrant a card to practice law in California.

The 35-year-old Garcia earned his law degree three years ago and passed the bar exam on the first try. But he must pursue the right to a lawyer?s license because of his immigration status, in flux since 1994 when he returned from Mexico to rejoin his family and finish high school.

On a recent June afternoon, Garcia described his plight in his small living room, where he keeps a folder of court papers and a scrapbook of business cards of journalists from as far away as China to someday show his children.

Garcia has wanted to be a lawyer since he was 10 and never imagined that simple dream would be so complicated.

?I hope the California Supreme Court will let me move on with my life,?

Garcia told this newspaper during a day of interviews around his hometown.

With the Florida Supreme Court recently taking up a nearly identical case, the issue has inflamed both sides of the immigration conflict and may draw the Obama administration into the fray. Among other legal questions, the California Supreme Court has asked the U.S. Justice Department to address whether federal law precludes the state from granting a professional license to an illegal immigrant.

The federal government and state Attorney General Kamala Harris are expected to file their legal opinions this week.

To immigration rights advocates, Garcia is the prototype of an immigrant who should be free to remain in the country and contribute. He has spent most of his life here, his father and most of his siblings are citizens, but the bogged-down federal visa process, particularly for Mexican immigrants, has slowed his quest for legal status.

The State Board of Bar Examiners agrees, urging the state Supreme Court to give Garcia his law license. (Florida?s board recommended against licensing Jose Godinez-Samperio, a 25-year-old Tampa law school graduate.)

California, ?which has expressed a desire to invest in the education of undocumented students, should be able to benefit from the contributions of these individuals as professionals, both economically and otherwise,? the board wrote in a brief.

But critics of illegal immigration see Garcia as an example of a system that?s too permissive.

?People in the country illegally should not be practicing law,? said Ira Mehlman, media director for the Federation for American Immigration Reform. ?This is an effort to eliminate the last vestige of the (difference) in people who are here illegally and people who are here legally.?

Garcia is quick to say he has not lived in the shadows. He was first brought to California as a 1-year-old, living here until he was 8 before returning to Mexico. He was 17 when he came back to stay, and his father immediately sought a visa. He has been waiting ever since.

Garcia jokes that he?s just missed every possible break and deadline that would have spared him this court battle. He was born in Mexico just before his parents came here and he?s too old to capitalize on President Barack Obama?s recent policy changes offering reprieves and work permits to people brought here as children.

As he strolls the bland campus of Durham High School, where he was ?a brown kid in a white world,? Garcia speaks softly of how he spent recesses studying. His grades drew scholarship offers, which drifted away when schools discovered his immigration status.

The only hint of bitterness he shows is when people use ?illegal? instead of ?undocumented? to describe him, a distinction he said fuels ?extreme views.?

Legal experts say Garcia?s case puts the state Supreme Court in uncharted territory, mainly because California has no clear law on the topic. The state bar didn?t even ask about immigration status until 2008.

Federal law bars local and state agencies from giving ?public benefits? to illegal immigrants. The key question is whether that forbids California from licensing Garcia.

Critics of illegal immigration say Garcia should be denied a license under federal law, but some law professors disagree.

?He has already lived, been educated and successfully passed the bar exam in California,? said Pratheepan Gulasekaram, a Santa Clara University law professor who specializes in immigration law. ?It seems silly to think of him as a person to whom (the federal law) was directed.?

Even if the Supreme Court sides with Garcia, legal fog surrounds whether he can practice law without a green card. Federal law bars employers from hiring undocumented workers, but Garcia insists he would hang up his own shingle as an independent contractor. Experts say the law does not require clients to check his immigration status.

Meanwhile, Garcia waits. Some of his legal work, helping area law firms with Spanish-speaking clients, has dried up as a result of publicity about his plight. But he is ready to take his case to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary.

?They picked the wrong guy,? he said. ?I?m stubborn. Either kick me out of the country or give me my law license.?

Team sports help teens stay fit | Health X Pert Articles-Health care ...

Active teens are healthy teens, but some kinds of activities may be better than others. New research published Monday in the journal Pediatrics ?suggests that team sports may be better at keeping kids' weight down than biking or walking to school. Study authors from Dartmouth College looked at the influence sports, physical education and commuting to school had on adolescents and their weight. Investigators surveyed more than 1,700 high school students by phone and asked them how much they participated in team sports, what other forms of physical activity they were involved in and their height and weight. The study found those kids who played on three or more sports teams in a year, were 27% less likely to be overweight, and 39% less likely to be obese than those teens who did not play team sports.? They also found biking or walking to school had less of an effect on a student's weight ? although it did reduce their likelihood of being obese. ?We estimated that the prevalence of obesity would decrease by 22% if all adolescents walked or biked to school four to five days per week,? said Keith Drake, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the Hood Center for Children and Families at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Drake's research also found that?P.E. classes for teens seemed to have little effect on their weight. ?Active commuting was not associated with a lower risk of being overweight, which suggests that it may be protective only for adolescents who are already overweight or obese.? We were surprised by this finding, as previous studies of active travel have failed to detect an inverse relationship with weight status." Researchers believe playing high school sports, which usually involve regular practices and competitions, reduces a child's chances of having a weight problem because of the strenuous and consistent workouts.? Therefore, study authors conclude, increasing a child's opportunity to play sports, even if they are not gifted athletes, should be a priority, especially for teens and children entering middle school or high school. ?Increasing sport participation in adolescents who do not play sports, are not athletic, or just not competitive may be challenging," Drake acknowledged. ?Because our estimates suggest that increasing sports participation among these adolescents would lead to the largest reduction in obesity, expanding non-competitive athletic opportunities, such as club sports and intramurals, should be prioritized.? One can easily beautify and modernize their home with the help of an expert remodeling contractor Houston. Since you are going to hand over your precious home to the contractor for the necessary redesigning and repair work, you need to choose one who can provide the best services within your budget. Here are some tips for choosing a good remodeling contractor:

  • Choose a contractor who has been engaged in remodeling work for several years. View his work at some places. Also check whether the contractor has the necessary licenses from state and local municipalities along with designations from professional remodeling associations.
  • Check whether the contractor has liability insurance and whether he is regularly paying workmen's compensation premium. This will help you avoid future problems.
  • Always seek written estimates from two to three contractors and compare the details before making your choice.
  • Don't opt for a contractor quoting the lowest rates because quality of material used and the services provided also play an important role.
  • Choose a contractor who can provide the whole range of remodeling services instead of one who can do only a part of the work needed to redesign or beautify your home.
  • Choose a contractor who can understand your requirements clearly and even given suggestions about how to achieve the desired results.
  • Opt for a contractor who has the reputation of completing his projects on time. This is important because unnecessary delays often result in cost overruns and other problems.
  • Don't opt for a contractor seeking a large amount of down payment. This shows that the contractor is not financially sound. A fair down payment should not be more than one third of the total remodeling cost.
  • Choose a contractor who is willing to give you regular updates about the progress of your home remodeling project.

While hiring the services of a remodeling contractor Houston, one should clearly discuss details such as the time required to complete the project, the work schedule, details of sub contracting if any, the down payments and details of remaining payment and the escalation clause.
